National military humanist leader Jason Torpy, national chaplain leader Dave Plummer, and national humanist leader Greg Epstein meet at Harvard Divinity school on October 3rd to discuss humanist chaplains and chaplain support of humanists.

On Sunday, October 2, the Harvard Humanist Chaplaincy will be hosting a very important community meeting at 12 Eliot Street with activities from 12-4pm: potluck brunch 12-1:00; from 1:30-3 we’ll have our community forum, a talk by Jason Torpy, President of Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers, on Humanists in Foxholes; and meditation from 3-4.

On Monday, October 3 from 6:30PM to 8PM at Harvard Divinity School, Jason Torpy, President of Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers, and Dave Plummer, Chair-Elect of the COMISS Network on Ministry in Specialized Settings, join Greg Epstein, the Humanist Chaplain at Harvard, to discuss the issue of Humanist Chaplains and Chaplain support for Humanists in the armed forces. The New York Times recently featured this topic in an article covering the rise of Atheists in the military and the issues surrounding military Humanist Chaplains, while Stars and Stripes recently covered the MAAF and its role in developing Humanist communities at installations around the world. Mr. Plummer represents Chaplains trying to reconcile their Christian backgrounds with the need to support all service members, including atheists.

Monday’s event is co-sponsored by the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers, the Harvard Divinity School, and the American Humanist Association.
